What is missing?

Did you every get the feeling that there is something missing in your life? That maybe there is something not totally right? That no matter what you do, no matter what you accomplish, no matter what you buy or how successful you are, you still feel that there is a hole in your life? Maybe you think you should have some joy in your life? Well I can tell you what is wrong and what is missing. Saint Augustine said O Lord you have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they rest in thee.

What is missing is this, complete and total surrender to Jesus. Not a one time decision, but a daily, moment by moment decision. This young man in the gospel today knew that he loved wealth and that it was keeping him from God. Money is not bad, wealth is not bad, things are not bad, all that God has created is good but it must be second to God. This is the commandment that Jesus has given to us. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind and your neighbour as yourself. Things cannot come before your love of God or neighbour.

What is missing is your total surrender? Give yourself completely to God each day and you will have the fullness of joy.

Matthew 19:16-22

16 And behold one came and said to him: Good master, what good shall I do that I may have life everlasting?

17 Who said to him: Why asketh thou me concerning good? One is good, God. But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

18 He said to him: Which? And Jesus said: Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness.

19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

20 The young man saith to him: All these I have kept from my youth, what is yet wanting to me?

21 Jesus saith to him: If thou wilt be perfect, go sell what thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come follow me.

22 And when the young man had heard this word, he went away sad: for he had great possessions.
