TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
PERSIST IN THIS THOUGHT!
We do not like to be weak or to be in need. But when someone we love is suffering then we will do anything to help them. The woman in the gospel today had a daughter who was suffering. She probably tried many things to help her get better and maybe only as a last resort was she forced to go to Jesus, a Jew, and ask for his help. In fact she did not simply ask for his help she was persistent in asking for his help and she would not take no for an answer. Her faith was great. She believed that God loved her and loved her daughter no matter what had happened and no matter what anybody said to her. She would not give up. Sometimes our needs and our troubles drive us to Jesus.
Just recently the Holy Father, Pope Francis during his trip to Korea baptized a man by the name of Lee Ho Jin who took the name Francis. Francis (Lee) had lost a child who had been on the ferry in South Korea which had suffered that terrible disaster. I do not know what was the exact particular cause of this man Francis (Lee) asking to become Catholic, being baptized and confirmed, but I do know that it was ultimately because of love. In the midst of his suffering, Francis (Lee) came to believe that God loved him in Jesus.
Today God gives you great faith, so always believe that God loves you no matter what happens. Persist in this thought and all will be well. GOD LOVES ME!
21 And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil.
23 Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us:
24 And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel.
25 But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me.
26 Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs.
27 But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters.
28 Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour.
